Learn.gold plans for Summer 2018

Learn.gold will be changing over the summer

Each year we upgrade learn.gold to the latest version of the Moodle software. This year the upgrade to Moodle 3.5 will bring some notable improvements:

  • a clearer, easier to use layout with better typography
  • a better dashboard
  • easier access to materials from previous years
  • students automatically added to their taught modules
  • an impoved and more flexible assignment activity (with Turnitin as an option)
  • easy webcam capture within the editor
  • restructured categories with departments at the top level

TaLIC will also be offering lots of support to help staff over the summer to get courses ready for the autumn.

Date for the upgrade: 23 July

The site will be down for up to a day. Note that nothing will be lost or deleted - your materials will still be there.

After this stage we'll create the blank course areas for the next year, however we can create them sooner on request from departmental managers.

Feedback sessions

We had some really useful comments in the learn.gold survey (March) and the demonstration/consultation sessions throughout May. Thanks to all who contributed.

Here's a short screencast that covers some of the material from the sessions, using our development server. (When it's playing you can view it full screen). This is quite an early version - the look and feel of the dashboard has improved since this was made.

Further sessions and workshops

We'll be advertising a number of events in August and September for you to experience the new learn.gold and work on your course areas.
